MYSURU, 8 MAY
The Karnataka High Court has stayed the Mysuru district administration’s order that permits opening of a madrassa or Arabic school in Kyathamaranahalli in Mysuru.
The court stayed the order on 6 May
Advocate HM Bhaskar said that the district administration granted permission to Haleema Sadiya Education Institution and Masjid-E-Siddique-E-Akbar Trust to reopen a madrassa after resolving a long-standing dispute over the property on Kyathamaranahalli Main Road in Gayathripuram II Stage.
The Mysuru deputy commissioner G Lakshmikanth Reddy held a meeting on 1 April following a High Court directive to garner public opinions regarding the issue and submit a report to the court.
Citing multiple Supreme Court rulings and Article 30, granting minorities the right to establish and manage educational institutions, the DC ordered the reopening of the school.
The order permitted the trust to operate the madrasa under constitutional provisions, disallowing any disruption or obstruction.
Locals reportedly opposed the reopening of the school in the disputed land.
Staying the order, the High Court directed the Mysuru district administration and police to maintain status quo in the issue.
