The government has brought 52 villages under the jurisdiction of the Bengaluru City Police Commissionerate, shifting them from the Bengaluru Rural district police. The move is aimed at enhancing law enforcement and public safety amid the city's rapid peripheral expansion.
An official order issued by KN Vanaja, Under Secretary to the Governor, has reassigned these villages to various city police stations with immediate effect. This strategic shift is intended to align policing infrastructure with Bengaluru’s urban sprawl and evolving demographics.
Villages including Hennanagara, Yarandahalli, and Kachanayakanahalli will now fall under the jurisdiction of Hebbagodi Police Station. Others have been redistributed among Bagaluru, Kempegowda International Airport, Yelahanka New Town, Chikkajala, Soladevanahalli, Bagalagunte, and Peenya police stations.
A major change is the dissolution of the Madanayakanahalli Police Station — previously known for recording the state’s highest crime rates. Its vast jurisdiction, covering 77 villages, 35 layouts, and over five lakh residents, has been split between Bagalagunte and Peenya stations.
This reorganisation is expected to streamline crime control and improve policing efficiency in rapidly urbanising localities. With many former villages now resembling urban neighbourhoods, the shift marks another step in Bengaluru’s transformation into a sprawling metropolitan hub.
