BENGALURU, 13 MAY

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Climate Action Cell (CAC) has announced the launch of the Bengaluru Climate Action Club programme, aimed at involving schools in meaningful climate initiatives across the city.

This initiative seeks to transform students into climate-aware citizens by combining climate education with practical, community-based action. According to the BBMP, the clubs will nurture leadership and advocacy skills in young people while encouraging them to contribute actively to local environmental solutions.

Launched with the support of Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, the programme invites all government, aided, and private schools in Bengaluru to participate. The goal is to enrol 100 schools within the first month, eventually expanding to include over 6,000 institutions.

To incentivise early participation, the first few schools that register will be recognised and awarded by the Deputy Chief Minister on World Environment Day, 5 June, 2025.

The BBMP emphasises that the programme is not just about raising awareness but about empowering students to take real, on-the-ground action in their communities. By fostering grassroots involvement, the initiative aims to connect classroom learning with real-world impact, promoting sustainability from the ground up.

This city-wide youth movement is expected to play a key role in strengthening Bengaluru’s resilience to climate change by embedding sustainability into the education system. Schools are encouraged to register and join this collective effort to build a greener, more sustainable future for the city.
