A private bus carrying construction workers turned turtle near Begur junction on the Kempegowda International Airport (KIAL) Road on Tuesday afternoon, leaving one person critically injured and at least eight others with varying degrees of injuries.
Police said, the accident took place between 12.45pm and 1pm when the bus (registration number KA 03 C 3642), carrying 35 employees of Ashoka Buildcon Limited, hit a road divider and overturned. The bus was heading towards the city from the airport when the mishap occurred near the first signal after the KIAL circle, the police said.
The workers were part of a team constructing the Western Crossfield Taxiway at the airport. They were reportedly en route to their paying guest accommodation in Kadayarapanahalli near Hunachur for lunch.
Police are investigating the cause of the accident and have, so far, not ruled out speeding or driver negligence. Further details are awaited.
