Bengaluru, 21 May

The body of an unidentified woman was discovered stuffed inside a suitcase near railway tracks in Chandapura, Anekal, on the outskirts of Bengaluru on Wednesday, police said.

The suitcase was spotted by a passerby, who immediately alerted the authorities. According to officials, there were no visible injury marks on the body, which is believed to belong to a woman aged 18 or above. Her identity is yet to be established.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the woman may have been murdered elsewhere and her body stuffed into the suitcase before it was disposed of in the isolated area. Investigators suspect the suitcase was thrown from a moving train.

“We suspect she was either strangled or smothered, as there are no external injuries,” a senior police officer said, adding that the exact cause of death will be confirmed after a postmortem examination.

CK Baba, Bengaluru Rural Superintendent of Police, confirmed that a murder case has been registered at Suryanagar police station. “There were no identification documents or personal belongings in the suitcase—only the body. We are thoroughly investigating the case and pursuing all leads,” he said.
