Ravikumar faced backlash for questioning whether Kalaburagi Deputy Commissioner Fouzia Taranum was an IAS officer or “someone from Pakistan”, a comment widely condemned as communal. Meanwhile, Narayanswamy allegedly likened Rural Development Minister Priyank Kharge to a dog, triggering further outrage.
Led by Minister and Leader of the House NS Boseraju, Congress MLCs urged the Governor to take suo motu cognisance of Ravikumar’s derogatory comment, issue a formal condemnation, and recommend disciplinary action, including possible censure or suspension. A separate petition called for Narayanswamy to resign, citing "unparliamentary conduct".
Speaking to reporters, Boseraju said the BJP leaders’ remarks were disgraceful and unbefitting of their positions. He criticised the BJP’s silence, stating, “No BJP leader has condemned these statements. This is unacceptable in a democracy.”
The Congress plans to file a similar petition with the Legislative Council Chairman, demanding both members be expelled from their posts. The Governor reportedly acknowledged the seriousness of the issue and agreed such behaviour had no place in public life.
