Mumbai, 30 May

IndiGo has announced an initial agreement with Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL) to establish a maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility at Bengaluru International Airport. The new facility will occupy approximately 31 acres and will enhance IndiGo's capability to maintain both narrow-body and wide-body aircraft, supporting the airline's growing fleet, according to a company statement.

IndiGo's CEO, Pieter Elbers, emphasised that this partnership signifies a strategic move towards developing the airline's maintenance capabilities while reinforcing Bengaluru's position as a key aviation hub. He stated, "This collaboration is a pivotal step towards building a significant global presence for IndiGo and India."

BIAL's MD and CEO, Hari Marar, welcomed the agreement, highlighting the long-term relationship between the two organisations and the prospects for growth at Bengaluru Airport. He expressed gratitude to the Government of Karnataka for its support in facilitating the collaboration.

In addition to the MRO facility, the initial pact includes plans for broader cooperation in network expansion, infrastructure development, and joint marketing initiatives, reflecting a shared commitment to enhance aviation infrastructure in the region. IndiGo currently operates MRO facilities in Delhi and Bengaluru.
