Mysuru, 1 June

A seven-year-old girl died in Mandya on Sunday after a granite slab fell on her. Following her death, protests erupted outside the hospital where she was treated, alleging medical negligence.

According to police, Sanvi, daughter of Ranjitha and Ningaraju of Nellur village of Malavalli taluk was admitted to Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) after a granite slab fell on her, causing leg injuries on 29 May. Despite a successful surgery on Sunday, she suddenly died due to multiple organ failure on Sunday, triggering protests outside the hospital. 

The protesters, joined by the parents and other organisations, claimed she was operated on by intern doctors and demanded justice.

A team of police, including Mandya Superintendent of Police Mallikarjuna Baladandi, rushed to the spot, to pacify the agitators. Police ordered a third-party investigation and postmortem by doctors from the KR hospital in Mysore.
