BENGALURU, 1 AUG

City’s Namma Metro Yellow Line has reportedly received a statutory safety clearance. It is now expected to be launched in the second week of August.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the 19.15km line, connecting RV Road to Bommasandara via Silk Board and Electronic City. However, official confirmation is yet to be released, and the inauguration date is reportedly contingent on his availability.

“Today, the significant progress of the airport metro route was reviewed by the Managing Director of BMRCL,” BMRCL said.

The clearance was reportedly given to AM Chowdhary, Commissioner of Railway Safety (Southern Circle, Bengaluru).

The first phase of the Yellow Line will initially operate three trains, expected to serve 25,000 passengers daily, at a frequency of 20 minutes. Full operation, with 15 trains serving 200,000 passengers daily, is expected to begin by 2026. Peak hour train interval is expected to drop to five minutes or less by then.

There will be 16 metro stations from R.V. Road to Bommasandra on the Yellow Line. This development comes nearly eight years after the civil works for the Yellow Line were awarded in 2017.

The Yellow Line has suffered significant delays, primarily due to disruptions in the supply of metro coaches.
