Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya inaugurated the piped natural gas (PNG)
pipeline work in Jayanagar on Sunday, starting at the SBI Colony in JP Nagar
1st Phase.
The initiative marks a major move towards cleaner, safer, and more affordable energy for city households.
Speaking at the event, Surya highlighted that families could save Rs 200 to Rs 300 per LPG cylinder by switching to PNG, which is also considered safer than conventional LPG.
He further noted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, efforts are underway to achieve 100 per cent PNG coverage in Bengaluru. Currently, residents in Bommanahalli and BTM constituencies are already benefiting from piped gas connections.
The project cost for PNG installation at SBI Layout is estimated between Rs 1.5 and Rs 2 crore, with GAIL responsible for the complete setup.
