BENGALURU, 29 OCT

Two men have been arrested in connection with a house burglary in Bengaluru, with police recovering gold and silver articles worth about Rs 72 lakh. The investigation began after a resident of Vishwapriya Layout lodged a complaint at the Begur police station, reporting that his house had been broken into while he was away in Udupi between 16 and 18 June.

The burglars had stolen 330 grams of gold ornaments and 1.2 kg of silver articles from a cupboard. Following weeks of CCTV analysis and scrutiny of pawn shop transactions, police detained a suspect near Begur Lake Koli on 6 August. During questioning, he admitted to the crime and revealed details of his accomplice. The stolen items had been pledged at pawn shops in Kolar Gold Fields (KGF).

Acting on this information, police recovered 614 grams of gold and 470 grams of silver from multiple jewellery shops in KGF and Chintamani between August and October. The second accused was arrested on 14 September. Both confessed to involvement in two more burglaries within Begur limits and several others in Bengaluru Rural district.
