A police sub-inspector and a constable attached to Bengaluru’s Bellandur Police Station have been suspended after a retired BPCL executive alleged harassment and corruption in a social media post that went viral.
Sivakumar K, former Chief Financial Officer of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), shared his ordeal on LinkedIn following the death of his 34-year-old daughter from a brain haemorrhage in September. In his now-deleted post, he wrote that he was forced to pay bribes at every stage for the ambulance, the FIR copy, the cremation, and even for obtaining the death certificate from civic staff. “I had money, I paid. What will the poor do?” he asked, expressing frustration and grief.
The post drew widespread outrage online, with users tagging Bengaluru City Police and the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Whitefield) on ‘X’, demanding accountability. Responding to the public outcry, the DCP’s office announced on Thursday that both the sub-inspector and constable had been immediately suspended. “The Police Department will not tolerate any such indecent or inappropriate behaviour under any circumstances,” the official statement said.
