BENGALURU, 6 NOV

A woman software engineer has been arrested for allegedly sending multiple hoax bomb threat emails, including one to a city school, police said on Thursday.

The case was registered at the Kalasipalya Police Station under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and IT Act, following a complaint from the principal of a public school that received a threatening mail on 14 June.

The North Division Cyber Crime Police traced the accused and took her into custody from Ahmedabad Central Jail on 28 October through a body warrant. During interrogation, she confessed to involvement in six similar cases in Bengaluru, officials said.

Police added that she was also linked to fake bomb threat cases in Gujarat, Mysuru, and Chennai. Investigation revealed that she used VPN services, virtual mobile numbers from an app called Gate Code, and 6–7 WhatsApp accounts to mask her identity.

According to police sources, the woman allegedly sent the hoax mails to frame a man who had rejected her marriage proposal, using his email ID to send the threats.

Following interrogation, she was sent back to Ahmedabad Central Jail, while further investigations are underway.
