Home Minister G Parameshwara on Thursday said police have gathered “all information” related to the Rs 7.11-crore ATM cash van heist in Bengaluru and expressed confidence that the culprits would be arrested soon. A gang of six men, posing as RBI officials, intercepted the vehicle in southern Bengaluru on Wednesday afternoon in what is being described as one of the city’s biggest recent robberies.
Parameshwara said CCTV footage from across Bengaluru was being analysed and technology was being used to verify whether the gang had fled the state. One vehicle involved in the crime was found using a fake number plate cloned from a parked vehicle, he added. The gang is believed to have switched vehicles after transferring the cash, with police now tracking movements on interstate routes.
Recalling similar incidents, the minister noted that in Vijayapura, two major robberies worth Rs 58 crore had been solved and the culprits arrested.
Meanwhile, Opposition Leader R Ashok criticised the government, calling the broad-daylight heist, executed in just seven minutes in a crowded area, a sign of collapsing law and order.
He said the daring robbery had shaken public confidence in banking security and accused the Congress government of losing control over the police due to internal power struggles.
