Amid reports that the SIT probing the allegations of "multiple murders, rapes and burials" in Dharmasthala is likely to file a charge sheet, Home Minister G Parameshwara said that the government has given its clearance, and it is left to the investigating team to decide when to submit.
The Special Investigating Team (SIT) is likely to file the charge sheet before the Belthangady court very soon, sources said.
"They will have to do it within 90 days," Parameshwara told reporters on Thursday, answering a question about the SIT filing charge sheet in the Dharmasthala case.
When asked whether any information had been shared with the government, he said that after filing the charge sheet in court, the SIT will share info with the government.
A controversy erupted after a complainant who was arrested for perjury claimed that he had buried many bodies, including those of women with signs of sexual assault, in Dharmasthala over two decades, with the implications pointing towards the local temple’s administrators.
The SIT, which is probing the charges, has conducted excavations at locations identified by the complainant in the forested areas along the banks of the Netravathi River in Dharmasthala and some skeletal remains were found at two sites.
