BENGALURU, 12 DEC

After arresting an alleged burglar, Bengaluru Police nabbed four others who had allegedly assaulted him and robbed his stolen goods, officials said on Friday.

After the man was robbed, he carried out two more burglaries the same night, they added.

With their arrests, police claimed to have recovered stolen gold ornaments and cash worth Rs 70 lakh.

The matter came to light after a resident of Mandur village filed a complaint at the Avalahalli police station on 24 November.

The complainant stated that he and his family had gone to Dharmasthala on 22 November. When they returned on 23 November midnight, they found that 90 grams of gold ornaments and Rs 1.75 lakh in cash, which were kept in the cupboard, had been stolen.

The police later intercepted one Ishay Raj at Parvathinagar in Medahalli on 2 December, who had come to sell a gold chain.

The gold chain was seized from him and he confessed to having stolen the gold and cash.

Later, Raj revealed that after burgling the house in Avalahalli limits, four people had assaulted him near Mandur crematorium and had snatched the stolen goods.

He confessed that on the same day, he had committed two more house burglaries.

Subsequently, the four who had assaulted Raj and robbed gold and cash were apprehended from Mandur.

The police recovered 447 grams of gold ornaments, Rs 28,250 in cash and a two-wheeler used for the offence.
