Bengaluru, 27 May

Fourteen patients, including some from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), were evacuated safely after a fire broke out at a private hospital in Bengaluru in the early hours of Wednesday, police said. None of the patients or staff sustained any injuries, they clarified.

According to police, the incident was reported at around 3.15am at Aveksha Hospital on MS Palya Road in Singapura, near Jalahalli.

Fire tenders were immediately rushed to the spot, and the blaze was brought under control, a senior police official added.

The fire is suspected to have started from an electrical cable in the basement duct, causing heavy smoke to engulf parts of the building, he said, adding that the evacuated patients were shifted to a nearby hospital.

Officials from Vidyaranyapura police station inspected the spot, police said, adding that further investigation is underway.
