Bengaluru, 3 July

Following the alleged assault by nannies at a Bengaluru daycare centre, the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR) said Friday it has begun reviewing the incident and will decide next steps after examining the facts.

Chairman Santhosh Kumar and member Satyanarayana Shetty said the daycare was found empty when they visited with police.

Officials will consult the government to formulate an SOP after reviewing existing protocols. Shetty assured that the Commission will ensure the guilty are punished.

Meanwhile, police sources said the two nannies, Manjula and Vijayalakshmi, were arrested and produced in court, which remanded them to 14 days' judicial custody.

Simultaneously, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) on Friday took suo-motu cognisance of alleged physical abuse and torture of children at a daycare centre operating in Bengaluru's Brookefield area.

Copies of the letter were sent to Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh, the KSCPCR Chairperson, and Karnataka's Principal Secretary and Director of Women and Child Development.

Commenting on the incident and the subsequent arrest, Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge said the state has zero tolerance for such incidents. He also added that the incident is not only about affecting the reputation of that company but also the 'Brand Bengaluru'.

Priyank said he was awaiting the company’s written explanation and noted that matters involving toddlers must be handled with the utmost responsibility.
