The Delhi High Court on Wednesday said it would pass an order on Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan’s plea seeking to protect his publicity and personality rights, and restrain websites from using his image, likeness, persona, or fake videos, including sexually explicit material.

Justice Tejas Karia took note of submissions by Bachchan’s counsel regarding the defendant entities. The court also heard a similar plea by his wife, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, seeking to prevent illegal use of her name, images, and AI-generated pornographic content, and said it would pass an interim order on her plea.

Bachchan’s lawyers argued that several defendants, including unidentified parties, are creating deepfake videos and fake signed photographs without authorisation, violating his publicity rights, copyright, and causing reputational harm.

The high court posted both matters for further proceedings on 15 January 2026, with a review before the joint registrar on 7 November 2025.

The plea names multiple defendants, including Bollywood Tee Shop, Etsy, YouTube channels, Google LLC, and government bodies like the Ministry of Electronics & IT and the Department of Telecommunications.
