"The Pitt" led all nominees with 25 nominations in its second season, while "Hacks" received a record 24 nominations for a comedy series in its final season, as Emmy nominations were announced on Wednesday.

The totals gave HBO Max the top spot in both drama and comedy categories. "Hacks" broke the record for most comedy nominations, previously held jointly by "The Studio" and "The Bear". HBO Max led all outlets with 122 nominations overall.

Jean Smart, who has won best actress in a comedy for all four previous seasons of "Hacks", received a nomination for a fifth. Co-star Hannah Einbinder earned her fifth nomination as well, while co-creator Paul W Downs was nominated three times for acting, writing and producing.

"The Pitt" dominated the acting categories in its second season, with Noah Wyle nominated for best actor, directing and producing, and Katherine LaNasa nominated again for supporting actress. The show took four of the seven supporting actress nominations and three supporting actor slots.

Apple TV had a strong showing with two new shows in their first seasons: "Pluribus", created by Vince Gilligan, received 18 nominations, including a best actress nod for Rhea Seahorn. "Widow's Bay" received 19 nominations, including best actor for Matthew Rhys.

Netflix's "Beef" led the limited series category with 16 nominations, while "Euphoria" returned to the Emmys after a long absence with seven nominations, including one for Zendaya.

The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards will air on NBC on 14 Sep, hosted by Mariska Hargitay.
