‘Deeply Saddened’: Nepal envoy mourns death of student at KIIT, calls for probe
This is the second incident of the death of a Nepali female student at the same university to be reported within three months.

Ambassador of Nepal to India, Shankar P Sharma, on Friday
expressed his profound grief over the death of 18-year-old Nepali student
Prisha Sah, studying at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT)
in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
According to a press note from the Information and Public Relations Department,
Government of Odisha, Prisha was a first-year B Tech at KIIT who died by
alleged suicide on Thursday evening. Taking to the social media platform X, Ambassador Sharma said that the Ministry of External Affairs, Odisha
Government, police and the university are closely coordinating for a thorough
probe into the matter.
"Deeply saddened by the tragic death of Nepali student Prisha Sah, found
in her hostel room at KIIT, Odisha. Heartfelt condolences to her family.
Prayers for eternal peace. We are closely coordinating with MEA, Odisha Govt,
police & the university for a thorough investigation," the Ambassador
said.
On Thursday, the Odisha government also extended condolences over the death of
the girl and assured that necessary action would be taken in the matter.
"Information about the alleged suicide of a girl student from Nepal,
studying in the first year B Tech, Computer Science, KIIT University, was
received from local police at about 8.10 pm today. The university authorities
immediately informed the girl's parents about the incident. In this hour of
distress, the State Government extends its support to the family of the
deceased and offers its condolences to them," the Information and Public
Relations Department said.
"On receipt of the information, senior officers, including the
Commissioner of Police and Revenue Divisional Commissioner, rushed to the site
to enquire into the circumstances leading to the unfortunate incident and take
necessary action in the matter. The forensic team is at the spot to collect
evidence," it added.
Meanwhile, the Nepalese Embassy in New Delhi expressed condolences and stated
that they were coordinating with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the
Odisha government, the police, and the university for a thorough investigation.
Sharing a post on X, the Nepal Embassy wrote, "Deeply saddened by the
tragic death of Nepali student Prisha Sah at KIIT, Odisha. Heartfelt
condolences to her family."
"Prayers for her eternal peace. We're closely coordinating with MEA,
Odisha Govt., police & the university for a thorough investigation,"
the post added.
This is the second incident of the death of a Nepali female student at the same university to be reported within three months. Earlier in February, Prakriti
Lamsal also died by suicide at the same university.
