Guwahati, 03 June

Several Northeastern states remain severely affected by floods and landslides triggered by relentless rainfall, with the death toll rising to 38 and over 5.5 lakh people impacted as of Monday. Assam is the worst-hit, reporting 11 deaths and over 5.35 lakh affected across 22 districts.

 Arunachal Pradesh

Arunachal Pradesh has now recorded 11 deaths, with a fresh fatality reported in Anjaw district.

In Arunachal, 938 people across 156 villages are affected. Lower Subansiri district saw significant damage, including destruction of homes, roads, and public infrastructure. Tourist sites and institutions like the ITI at Balinong were submerged or destroyed. Relief camps have been set up, and 18 people have been evacuated so far.

Assam

In Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who assured full central support. The Regional Meteorological Centre issued an 'orange alert' for several districts with predictions of continued heavy rainfall. Over 12,000 hectares of crop land have been inundated, and 94 animals have perished. More than 31,000 people are taking shelter in 165 relief camps.

Manipur

In Manipur, over 56,000 people have been affected by flash floods. At least one person is missing, and more than 10,000 houses have been damaged. Ninety-three landslides have been reported in the last five days, with Imphal East district worst hit.

While Union Minister JP Nadda urged BJP workers to assist with relief efforts, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge criticised the Modi government, urging transparency and use of the PM CARES Fund.

With embankments breached and rivers flowing above danger levels, the flood situation remains grim across the region. Relief and rescue efforts continue, but more rainfall is forecast in the coming days.
