NEW DELHI, 27 JULY Actor Karisma Kapoor is reportedly seeking a share in the estimated ₹30,000 crore estate of her former husband Sunjay Kapur, who passed away in June this year, according to media reports. There has been no official confirmation from Kapoor or her representatives on the matter. Kapoor was married to Kapur from 2003 to 2016, and the couple has two children. Reports suggest that following Kapur's demise, disputes have arisen over succession and control of the family’s business empire, the Sona Group. Sunjay Kapur’s mother, Rani Kapur, has also laid claim to the estate, asserting that she holds a majority share in the group and is the rightful heir. She has alleged that certain individuals attempted to take control of the business through coercion and document misuse. Rani Kapur has also claimed that her bank account was frozen, which, she said, has created financial hardship. During their divorce settlement in 2016, Karisma Kapoor reportedly received ₹70 crore, along with a residential property and financial provisions for the children, including ₹14 crore in bonds and a monthly income of ₹10 lakh for their upkeep. Under Indian succession law, biological children are considered legal heirs. However, the final distribution of assets will depend on the contents of Sunjay Kapur’s will, if any, and the outcome of any legal proceedings that may ensue. The matter remains under development.
