Chief Minister Siddaramaiah lashed out at the BJP, saying that they have put Indian democracy at stake. Speaking at the Congress Party’s Working Committee meeting on Wednesday, he said that people have realised that only the Congress can safeguard democracy.
“India today is living in the shadow of self-deception,” he said, according to a statement.
“Institutions are being seized, freedoms are being curtailed, and the mandate of the people is being stolen.”
"The very spirit of the Constitution - liberty, equality, fraternity, and justice is being throttled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, the BJP, and their ideological masters in the RSS," he added.
“The recent SIR tragedy witnessed in Bihar proves the depths to which the BJP will stoop for power,” he added, noting the alleged “vote chori” in Mahadevpur and Aland constituencies in State.
“While democracy is faltering domestically, the Modi government has failed in foreign policy. India's foreign policy, once respected globally, has now degenerated into silence and subservience. When US President Donald Trump shamelessly claimed that he had brought peace to Kashmir, Modi did not say a word. This is not diplomacy. This is a compromise with our sovereignty,” he added.
“People have understood that only Congress is capable of protecting our rights, safeguarding democracy, and upholding justice,” he said. “We are fighting to save India. The BJP - RSS nexus wants to destroy the soul of this country, but we will not allow.”
