New Delhi, 26 Nov

A 40-year-old daughter-in-law of Kamal Kishor Chaurasia, the man behind the Kamla Pasand pan masala and Rajshree brands, allegedly died by suicide at the family’s home in south Delhi’s upscale Vasant Vihar, police said on Wednesday.

The deceased, identified as Deepti Chaurasia, was married to Chaurasia’s son Harpreet since 2010. She was found hanging from the ceiling of the house around noon on Tuesday. According to sources, she used a dupatta. Her husband rushed her to Safdarjung Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Officials said the couple had been living in two separate houses due to ongoing disputes. During the investigation, police recovered a suicide note and diary entries indicating persistent marital discord.

Reports quoting the note said she did not blame anyone. It also contained the line: “If there is no love and trust in a relationship, what is the point of life?” Investigators suspect family issues may have pushed her to the edge, and a detailed probe is underway.

A diary seized from the room also carried multiple references to regular disputes with her husband, police said. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination at Safdarjung Hospital.

Deepti is survived by her 14-year-old son. Police are yet to make an official public statement on the case.
