Faridabad, 31 Dec

A 25-year-old married woman was allegedly gang-raped in a moving van here and later thrown onto the road at high speed, sustaining critical head injuries, police said on Wednesday. Two men have been arrested in connection with the crime.

The incident took place late Monday night when the woman, who was waiting for transport, was offered a lift by the accused. Instead of taking her to her destination, they allegedly drove her towards Gurugram and sexually assaulted her inside the vehicle, police said.

According to investigators, the woman was driven around through the night before being pushed out of the van near Raja Chowk at around 3 am. The vehicle was moving at a speed of over 90 kmph at the time, police said.

She suffered severe injuries to her face and head and required more than 12 stitches. Her condition remains critical, and she is not yet medically fit torecord her statement, a police officer said.

As per a complaint lodged by the victim’s sister, the woman had been staying at her parents’ home due to marital discord. On Monday evening, she visited a friend in Sector 23 and was returning late at night when she was offered a lift by the accused.

The woman managed to call her sister after being thrown out of the vehicle. The sister reached the spot and rushed her to Badshah Khan Civil Hospital. Doctors later advised shifting her to Delhi due to the seriousness of her injuries, but the family admitted her to a private hospital in Faridabad.

“My sister was badly injured after she was thrown out of the vehicle. Considering her condition, we decided to admit her to a private hospital,” the victim’s sister said.

Police said the two accused are natives of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh and were living in Faridabad. They were not known to the woman. Their identities will be disclosed after a test identification parade is conducted.

The van used in the crime has been seized, and the accused have confessed to the offence, police said.

“We have nabbed the accused and are questioning them. They will be produced before acourt. Since a test identification parade is yet to be conducted, the names and photographs of the accused cannot be disclosed at this stage,” Faridabad police spokesperson Yashpal Yadav said.
