TN CM Vijay assures justice in Coimbatore child sexual assault-murder case
According to police, the child went missing on 21 May at around 5pm while playing outside her residence.

Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay has spoken to the family of a 10-year-old girl
who was allegedly sexually assaulted and killed in Coimbatore, over the phone
and assured them that justice would be ensured, the victim's grandmother said
on Sunday.
"He
(CM) spoke to us and assured justice. He also enquired about us and whether we
have a house. He said he was with us and not to worry," she told
reporters.
The sexual
assault and brutal murder of the child in Coimbatore's Sulur has led to shock
and outrage across Tamil Nadu. Two men, including an acquaintance of the girl,
have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Meanwhile,
in Coimbatore, West Zone Inspector General of Police R V Ramya Bharathi on
Sunday said that senior officers will be coming for a preliminary review of the
case.
"The
only two persons involved have been promptly arrested. In view of the
sensitivity of the case, senior officers will be coming for preliminary
review," she told ANI.
Earlier,
IGP Bharati said in a press conference that the case is being altered to
include the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences
(POCSO) Act, 2012, due to the assault of a minor.
She said the girl went missing on 21 May (Thursday) at around 5pm. The police reached the spot immediately after receiving the information and registered a case regarding the missing child.
