Shivamogga, 6 Dec
A case has been filed against
former deputy chief minister KS Eshwarappa at the Kote Police Station for
allegedly making an inflammatory speech during a protest concerning the arrest
of Hindus in Bangladesh. This marks the second incident within a span of 20
days against Eshwarappa for similar accusations.
The protest, held at Mathura
Paradise in Shivamogga, was organised in response to the arrest of spiritual
leader Chinmoy Krishna Das in Bangladesh. Das was detained by Bangladeshi
authorities at Dhaka airport on 25 November, facing sedition charges linked to
accusations of disrespecting the national flag during a rally attended by the
Hindu community.
West Bengal Assembly Leader of
Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, announced that the Bharatiya Janata Party will
stage a blockade at the Basirhat border on 10 December to protest against
violence against Hindu minorities. He emphasised the need to halt these
atrocities and called for the release of Chinmoy Krishna Das.
A Bangladesh court has set a
hearing date for Das’s bail petition on 2 January, 2025, while the Indian
Ministry of External Affairs has expressed strong criticism regarding his
arrest and ongoing detention, fuelling widespread calls for his immediate
release. -ANI
