An elderly woman, aged 80, was reportedly raped and murdered in Srinivasapur on Monday morning, leading to the arrest of a suspect named Babu, a mason residing in Gafar Khan Mohalla. The victim has been identified as Lakhmidevamma, from HG Hosur in Srinivasapur taluk.

Lakhmidevamma was reported missing from her home two days prior to the incident, prompting her relatives to search for her in vain. Meanwhile, Babu allegedly encountered her lying by the roadside near a sandy maidan. Police reports suggest that he offered assistance to the frail woman before taking her to a secluded area where he assaulted and ultimately killed her.

After the heinous act, Babu reportedly returned to the original spot, where he stole cash from her bag before fleeing the scene. The entire incident was captured on nearby CCTV, with footage showing Babu conversing with Lakhmidevamma and carrying her to the secluded location.

Srinivasapur police were able to apprehend the suspect following their review of the surveillance footage, according to Circle Inspector Mohammed Goravanakolla. The case has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting urgent concerns regarding safety for vulnerable individuals.
