Manjula Gooli, former district
women’s Congress president, has been arrested in connection with a fire set at
the Congress office in Yadgir city. Police apprehended her in Bidar while she
attempted to flee to Hyderabad. The incident occurred on 24 May when Gooli,
unhappy with her removal from her position, allegedly conspired with her
husband and a known criminal to ignite the office using petrol. CCTV footage
confirmed the involvement of her accomplices, leading to her being taken into
custody. The fire resulted in significant damage to office property, including
furniture and appliances. The police have not ruled out further investigations
into her associates and their motives regarding the incident, as concerns rise
over the political tensions within local Congress leadership.
