BIDAR, 27 JULY

With rains pounding Bidar over the past week, MLA Dr Shailendra Beladale has asked the officials to remain alert and take emergency precautionary measures, while the public should remain vigilant.

The Bidar South MLA instructed senior officials to visit and inspect whether designated staff are properly cleaning water storage tanks in Anganwadis, schools, colleges, and government residential schools. Gram Panchayat officials should maintain hygiene in and around water supply tanks in the villages, he said. Functionality of water supply pipelines must also be verified. Priority should be given to the purity of drinking water.

Due to ongoing rainfall, classrooms that are structurally weak must not be used for teaching, he added. Education department officials should inspect such classrooms and submit a report.

He warned that heavy rains could damage or collapse homes; hence, people should avoid staying in dilapidated rooms. Revenue department officials should inspect such houses and take necessary action.

While the rain has significantly boosted crop growth, reports of damage due to excessive rain have also started to emerge. A comprehensive report on the impact of the rain must be prepared, the MLA directed.
