Rains pound State; Schools shut as infra crumbles
In Yadgir, the district administration declared a two-day holiday for 19-20 August in the interest of safety.

Heavy rains across the
State destroyed infrastructure and severely impacted daily life on Tuesday.
Schools and colleges were shut in seven districts.
BELAGAVI
All six major rivers in
Belagavi district - Krishna, Markandeya, Malaprabha, Ghataprabha, Vedaganga and Doodhaganga rivers - rose to massive heights,
inundating nine bridges and disconnecting 18 villages. All the 18 villages were
from Chikkodi taluk.
The rivers has swollen due to incessant downpour in Belagavi and south Maharashtra.
The water level in Malaprabha dam
was just 2ft below its brims level, prompting officials to release 5,500 cusecs
of water on Tuesday. 4,000 cusecs more than what was released on Monday.
BIDAR
District-in-charge Minister Eshwara Khandre directed
the administration to ensure speedy repair works, after heavy rainfall over the
past few days Bidar district damaged roads and cut off power connections.
The minister instructed the
Deputy Commissioner to provide Rs 5,000 immediate relief to families affected
by the rains.
SCHOOLS
SHUT
Schools Anganwadi’s and
pre-universities (PUC) were shut in Dharwad, Chikkamagaluru,
Belagavi, Dakshina Kannada, Hassan, Bidar, and Kodagu
districts on Tuesday owing to heavy rainfalls in the areas.
