In the wake of heavy rains that wreaked havoc across Bidar district this August, District In-charge Minister Eshwar Khandre has urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to sanction an immediate ₹100 crore special relief package.

Khandre, who met the CM on Saturday evening, said torrential rains have caused widespread destruction, damaging thousands of acres of crops, including soybean and red gram, washing away bridges, cutting off roads and power supply, and flooding hundreds of homes.

The district administration’s preliminary assessment, based on NDRF and SDRF guidelines, estimates total losses at around ₹500 crore. With food grains ruined and essential infrastructure disrupted, the minister warned that the already backwards district faces deeper distress.

He appealed for urgent relief to support affected farmers, labourers, and poor families who have been hit hardest by the disaster. A formal request for financial aid has been submitted to the state government.
