MANGALURU, 6 SEPT
The Mangaluru police have arrested a construction worker from West Bengal for the cold-blooded murder of his colleague over an obscene video of the accused’s wife.
The accused Laxman alias Lakhan, 30, allegedly bludgeoned his co-worker Mukesh Mandal, 27, with an iron rod after discovering that Mukesh had saved explicit videos of his wife on his mobile phone.
The murder took place on 24 June, but the decomposed body wrapped in a plastic sheet was only recovered on 21 August, from a sewage treatment plant tank in Mukka, near Surathkal.
A man named Chetan filed a complaint after noticing a foul smell and suspicious signs at the under-construction site. The police filed an FIR and launched investigations.
The accused had fled immediately after the murder. The police tracked him across West Bengal and Tamil Nadu and arrested him.
During interrogation, Lakhan confessed to the crime.
Lakhan was reportedly also involved in two more assault cases in West Bengal.
He was produced in the court and was in police custody for further interrogation.
