Karnataka police have registered a case against BJP leader and MLC CT Ravi for allegedly making inflammatory remarks targeting the minority community during a Ganesha idol immersion event in Maddur.
The case, filed under Section 196(1)(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (promoting enmity between groups), followed a police complaint after Ravi’s speech on Wednesday. The event, attended by senior BJP leaders, was held as a show of strength after stone-pelting during a Ganesha procession on 7 September.
Reacting to the FIR, Ravi said he would “not be cowed down” and vowed to continue his fight for Hindutva. “Don’t try to frighten me with a case,” he said in a video statement, blaming the violence on those who pelted stones and allegedly raised pro-Pakistan slogans.
Home Minister G Parameshwara said police would take necessary action, while Deputy CM DK Shivakumar remarked that Ravi’s conduct was “well known to people.”
Police have so far arrested 22 people over the Maddur stone-pelting incident, which sparked protests and a bandh earlier this week.
