Karnataka govt issues draft rules to fix cinema ticket at Rs 200

The new Karnataka Cinemas (Regulation) (Amendment) Rules, 2025, are set to come into effect upon their final publication in the Official Gazette.

The Karnataka government has announced draft rules to amend the Karnataka Cinema (Control) Rules, 2014, establishing a ticket price cap of Rs 200, excluding taxes, for all theatres in the state, including multiplexes.


However, multi-screen cinemas with premium facilities accommodating 75 seats or fewer are exempt from this limit.


In a statement, the government invited feedback from stakeholders within 15 days, to be submitted at the office of the Additional Chief Secretary to Government, Home Department.


“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 19 of the Karnataka Cinema (Control) Act, 1964, the Government of Karnataka has made the draft rules to further amend the Karnataka Cinema (Control) Rules, 2014,” the notification stated.


The new Karnataka Cinemas (Regulation) (Amendment) Rules, 2025, are set to come into effect upon their final publication in the Official Gazette.
