Mysuru police capture rape, murder suspect after shootout
Mysuru police shot and apprehended Karthik, accused of raping and murdering a nine-year-old girl from Kalaburagi, after tracing him via CCTV and a failed surrender attempt.

A 31-year-old man, who reportedly raped and murdered a nine-year-old girl in Mysuru, was shot at by police and apprehended. The incident occurred on Thursday.
The accused has been identified as Karthik. As per the police report, the girl was sleeping with her family in a temporary tent near the Dasara Exhibition Grounds. Her family, who had come from Kalaburagi to sell balloons during the festival, awoke to find her missing.
They discovered her body nearby a short time later.
Using CCTV footage, police identified Karthik, a resident of Siddalingapura, and traced him to Kollegal. A senior officer stated, “We warned him to surrender, but he refused. He then attacked a personnel with a bottle, injuring him. Only then did we shoot him in the leg.”
Karthik was hospitalised and will be produced in court after discharge. A case of rape and murder under the POCSO Act has been registered at the Nazarbad police station. Police revealed Karthik has two prior cases, including attempted rape, and was recently released from jail.
