A violent incident occurred during a community meeting, known as a Nyaya Panchayat, held to discuss the love marriage of Shobha and Mallareddy in Honagera village in Karnataka.

The couple, who had worked together in Bengaluru, secretly married in a temple without informing their families. Upon learning of the union, a meeting was convened in the presence of community elders to organise a formal ceremony.

Tensions escalated during the gathering, resulting in a heated argument. According to reports, the girl’s family accused Nirmal, a relative of Mallareddy, of orchestrating the marriage. In the midst of the chaos, Nirmal allegedly attacked four individuals: Veerappa, Mallappa, Mallesh, and another Mallappa. Veerappa sustained serious injuries, suffering deep wounds to his stomach and hand, and has been admitted to JIMS Hospital in Kalaburagi.

The Yadgiri Town Police have registered a case and arrested Nirmal in connection with the stabbings. The incident highlights the rising tensions surrounding inter-caste marriages within the community.
