KALABURAGI, 28 OCT
A peace meeting organised by the Kalaburagi district administration concerning a planned RSS procession in Chittapur on 2 November descended into chaos, as Dalit organisations insisted that the RSS conduct the event without lathis. RSS representatives firmly opposed this demand, resulting in a heated exchange that led to the abrupt adjournment of the meeting.
The district administration convened the meeting on Tuesday to discuss the contentious issue, but both sides remained unwavering in their positions. To ensure their safety, police escorted RSS leaders to their vehicles amidst the turmoil. Dalit organisations, including the Bhim Army, warned of a protest march if their demands are unmet.
This issue is currently under the scrutiny of the Kalaburagi bench of the High Court, which previously directed the district administration to hold the peace meeting and report back. A court ruling on the fate of the RSS procession is anticipated on 30 October, as tensions mount and both sides maintain their stances.
