Kiran, a 24-year-old man from Chikkabennur village in the Channagiri taluk, is fighting for his life after reportedly attempting suicide due to alleged police torture linked to a robbery case.
Police reportedly detained numerous people, including Kiran, while investigating a robbery case. Kiran was allegedly held for three days and tortured before being released.
Family members claim he was pressured to confess to the crime.
Married just seven months ago, Kiran was admitted to a private hospital by family members who found him after he tried to hang himself.
The incident has incited public anger, with Kiran's mother confronting officers at the Santhebennur police station. Locals intervened to de-escalate the situation.
In response, District In-charge Minister SS Mallikarjuna has instructed the Superintendent of Police to investigate the matter, while the family demands accountability for the officers involved. Additional Superintendent of Police Parameshwar Hegde stated, "We only summoned him for questioning.”
