In a tragic incident in Kolar district, a 32-year-old electrician allegedly killed his four-year-old daughter before taking his own life after learning that his wife had eloped with another man, police said on Thursday.
The incident occurred on Wednesday at Mudiyanoor village under Mulbagal rural police limits. The deceased have been identified as Lokesh, 32 and his daughter Niharika, 4.
According to police, Lokesh’s wife Navya Shree went missing from their home on Tuesday evening. After searching unsuccessfully, he lodged a missing complaint. The next morning, he reportedly discovered that she had fled with a villager named Murali, a labourer.
Distressed by the revelation and gossip in the village about his wife’s alleged affair, Lokesh is believed to have drowned his daughter before hanging himself from a tree near the local junior college, officials said.
Villagers told police that Lokesh had earlier warned his wife about her relationship, and elders had intervened, but she ignored their advice.
Navya Shree returned to the village on Wednesday evening after learning of the deaths. Mulbagal Rural Police have detained her and Murali for questioning.
