KOPPAL, 7 NOV

A shocking incident has emerged from the Koppal Rural Police Station, where a 21-year-old brother has been accused of raping his 17-year-old minor sister, resulting in her giving birth to a child. The police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act based on the girl's complaint.

The victim, who delivered a baby boy last week, stated that her brother had convinced her to believe that he would marry her, despite her initial objections.

“If you do this to your brother and sister, society will not accept us,” she told her brother, police said, quoting the FIR. Nonetheless, the brother persisted, assuring her, “I will never leave you. Don’t worry about what society thinks.”

He allegedly started abusing her in February. The victim claimed she tried to inform her parents, but was threatened with suicide by her brother.

On 26 October, after a fall while doing housework, she was taken to a private hospital, where it was discovered she needed further examination. Subsequently, on 30 October, she went to Koppal District Hospital, where she learned of her pregnancy.

The accused has since been placed in judicial custody.
