Youth must become job creators for a self-reliant India: Karnataka Governor

Governor Gehlot urges youth to drive innovation, entrepreneurship for Viksit Bharat 2047 at JSS convocation in the presence of Vice-President Radhakrishnan.

Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot on Sunday urged young people to become job creators to help build a self-reliant and developed India by 2047. Speaking at the 16th Convocation of JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, in the presence of Vice-President CP Radhakrishnan, he said youth must guide society through innovation and entrepreneurship.


Gehlot highlighted India’s rich knowledge traditions and said the National Education Policy had reintroduced ancient disciplines such as Ayurveda, Yoga and Philosophy into modern education. He praised institutions like JSS for strengthening Karnataka’s leadership in education and research.


The Governor paid tribute to the late Suttur Mutt pontiff Shivaratri Rajendra Mahaswamiji for his work in education, food security and healthcare, and lauded current pontiff Shivaratri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji for continuing the legacy.


Vice-President Radhakrishnan emphasised NEP 2020’s flexibility, urged graduates to contribute to Viksit Bharat 2047, use social media responsibly, and uphold discipline.


A total of 2,925 students graduated, and 16 gold medallists were honoured.


VP calls Shravanabelagola a symbol of spirituality


Vice-President CP Radhakrishnan on Sunday paid homage to Jain monk Acharya Shri Shanti Sagar Maharaj at Shravanabelagola and said the sacred land stood the test of time as a "symbol of spirituality, peace and renunciation".


Speaking at the commemoration of the Acharya, Radhakrishnan said that the Kannadigas always protected its tradition, heritage and culture.


He described Shravanabelagola as one of the most venerated Jain pilgrimage centres, where the eternal light of truth of the ideas of Jain Dharma continues to inspire.


The Vice President noted that the 57-foot monolithic statue of Lord Bahubali remains a magnificent testament to human devotion and artistic genius.


Radhakrishnan said the present pontiff of Shravanabelagola Math, Swasti Sri Charukirti Bhattaraka Swami ‘s role was critical to the success of the four grand Maha Mastakabhisheka of Lord Bahubali, the last one in 2018 attended by millions of devotees.


The pontiff also established hospitals, and educational institutions, extending the philosophy of seva and service to humanity and tried to revive the Prakrit language in order to bridge the Indian ancient heritage and its modern academic landscape.
