The issue of a separate North Karnataka state is likely to be discussed during the upcoming winter session of the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi from 8 to 19 December, Speaker UT Khader announced on Wednesday.
Speaking to the press after verifying the arrangements made for the session, he said the House is likely to take a call on whether or not to recommend the long-standing demand for a separate North Karnataka state. However, he termed raising the issue itself “inappropriate”.
A detailed discussion on issues concerning North Karnataka has been scheduled for the first, third and fourth days of the session. “If MLAs raise questions related to the region, the government is obligated to respond,” Khader said.
The Speaker said inter-departmental meetings have already been held to ensure smooth conduct of the session.
Facilities will be arranged for visitors attending the proceedings. Only 500 students will be permitted to witness the session each day, and prior approval from the respective DDPI will be mandatory for entry. Additionally, 30 students will be selected for a comprehensive study programme covering the entire session, including motivation classes and sector-specific exposure based on their interests.
