A shocking case from in Kukanur taluk has sparked widespread outrage after a 16-year-old Class 10 student staying at the Pre-Matric Girls’ Hostel delivered a baby boy on the hostel premises. The delivery reportedly occurred inside the compound, raising serious concerns about negligence and the failure of hostel staff to detect the girl’s pregnancy.
Following the incident, the minor and her newborn were shifted to the Women and Children’s Hospital in Koppal. Both are reported to be stable and under medical supervision. However, the major question being raised is how the hostel staff failed to notice that a 16-year-old girl was visibly pregnant.
Koppal Deputy Commissioner Suresh Itnal and District Superintendent of Police Dr Ram L Arasidddi visited the hospital and ordered a detailed probe. Kukanur Police have registered a POCSO case and arrested a 23-year-old accused youth.
State Commission for Protection of Child Rights Chairperson Dr Shashidhar Kosambe said the incident reflects a collective failure of the school and hostel system. “Such incidents are unacceptable. Strict action will be taken against negligent staff,” he told Salar News, directing officials to ensure medical care and rehabilitation.
Authorities have suspended six officials, including the hostel superintendent, teachers and two medical officers linked to the case.
