After
a baby boy died during childbirth in Yadgir, the grieving family sat outside
the government hospital in protest, alleging that the institution denied the
pregnant mother treatment.
The
family said that they brought the pregnant mother, Neelabai, from Balichakra
Tanda in Yadgir taluk, to the government YIMS Mother and Child
Hospital when
she experienced labour pains. However, the hospital neither provided her a bed
nor gave her treatment.
Neelabai
slept on the hospital floor the entire day on Saturday, according to the family's allegations.
However,
when she began to bleed heavily, the doctors performed a surgery to deliver the
baby. They had initially said a normal delivery would be fine, but on early
Sunday, they decided to perform a C-section surgery. Unfortunately, they found that
the baby had already died in the womb.
The
family alleged that medical negligence had led to the baby’s death and filed an
official complaint.
However,
the hospital presented a different account.
Yadgir District Surgeon Dr Rizwana told Salar News. “The delivery date
had been given as 26 November. However, the family postponed the delivery
date.”
Dr
Rizwana said that the baby’s heartbeat had stopped before the C-section was
even performed by Dr Nagashree.
President
of the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Bengaluru,
Shashidhar S Kosambe, told Salar News that the body has taken suo motu
cognisance of the death at YIMS hospital.
“I
have directed the authorities to submit a detailed report on the incident
within seven days,” Kosambe said.
