Portion of Mysuru Palace’s south gate collapses
Barricades were installed after the plaster fell onto a staff member’s parked bike.

A portion of the roof plaster above the south entrance of the Mysuru Palace fell off on Thursday, but no injuries were reported. A small section of the roof over the Varaha Gate entrance fell onto a staff member’s parked bike.
After the incident, Mysore Palace Board authorities installed barricades near the gate, preventing the entry of the public until further orders.
The entry gates of iconic Mysore Amba Vilas Palace including Balarama and Varaha Gates of Mysuru Palace. They have attractive artwork, cusped arches and paintings on its walls. There is an urgent need to conserve these gates as every year about 40 to 50 lakh tourists including 40,000 foreigners visits iconic Mysuru Palace, Historian and District Heritage Committee member Prof Rangaraju told Salar News.
He said gates and welcome arches for at least 200 heritage buildings across Mysuru needed immediate restoration.
