Mysuru, 6 Feb

A team of taluk administration officials led by Mysuru taluk Tahsildar Maheshkumar cleared encroachments on government land in the early hours of Friday using a JCB earthmoving machine at Survey Number 87 in Mysuru taluk, reclaiming 38 guntas of government property worth Rs 38 crore, according to Tahsildar Maheshkumar.

The district administration had allotted 38 guntas of government land to the Department of Other Backwards Classes and Minorities Welfare for the construction of post-matric hostels for boys and girls. An order to this effect had been issued by the then Deputy Commissioner on 30 August 2010.

Private individuals had not only encroached on this government property but had also used the land as a parking lot, collecting parking fees from vehicle owners. They had also constructed a temporary shed for a tea shop, said the officer Maheshkumar.

Following a complaint of encroachment by the department, the Mysuru taluk administration cleared the land, paving the way for the construction of the post-matric hostels.

District Office of the Department of Other Backwards Classes, Raghavendra, Urban Metrology Department Assistant Director Chikkanna, Police Inspector Yoganjanappa, Ravishankar and Rahith were present.
