A Class 10 student at Kittur Chennamma Residential School in Raguttazhalli, Chintamani taluk, was allegedly raped by her distant relative, Sri Hari, 35, during Dasara holidays.

The girl left the hostel on 20 September and stayed at her house until 29 October. During this period, Sri Hari allegedly assaulted her, leading to pregnancy.

Upon returning, the warden asked about her health, and she said her menstrual cycle was fine. In November, she missed a routine health check, citing that she needed to go home. Suspicious, authorities questioned her and her parents, who returned with a report claiming her health was fine.

In January, a nurse found her pregnant, and tests at a government hospital confirmed it. Her parents initially denied it. A case was filed against Sri Hari under the POSCO Act at Kencharlahalli police station; he has since absconded.

Warden Savitha Kumari and Principal DV Nagarathanamma have been suspended for delayed action. The outsourced nurse was terminated and replaced.
