The
child protection department saved a minor girl from getting married to a 30-year-old man. The authorities also got an injunction from the court to prevent
any attempt by the girl’s parents to marry off the girl before 18.
The
incident took place in Sidlagatta taluk when the Child Helpline received a call
on 10 February about an attempt by the parents of a minor girl to get her
married.
Soon, District Child Protection Officer Nautaj rushed to the spot and found that an
engagement function was on for the 16-year-old girl.
Nautaj
convinced the parents against marrying off the minor girl and also advised the
groom. The girl was later left with the Balikiyara Bala Mandira in
Chikkaballapura.
Fearing
that the girl’s parents may go ahead with the marriage once the girl comes out
of the Bala Mandira, the Child Protection Officer filed a suit and sought an
injunction restraining the girl’s parents from conducting the marriage of the
girl before she turns 18.
The Senior Civil Judge and JMFC, Sidlagatta, after considering the request, issued injunction orders on Thursday.
